Letter Grade Policy ALL courses for the major MUST be taken for a letter grade.  Only courses with grades of C (2.0) or better can be used to fulfill major requirements.  Courses in which you receive a grade of C-, D+, D, D- or F cannot be used to satisfy a major requirement or satisfy a prerequisite for another course.

Qualification Policy:  You must meet qualification policy criteria to be elgible to declare this major.


Calculus:  MATH 11A + 11B  OR MATH 19A + 19B

Chemistry:  CHEM 1A + 1B/M + 1C/N

Biology:  BIOL 20A + BIOE 20B + BIOL 20L

Organic Chemistry:  Chem 8A/L + Chem 8B/M (109 optional)

Statistics:  STAT 5 OR 7/L

  PHYS 6A/L + 6B OR PHYS 6A/L + PHYS 6C OR PHYS 7A* + 7B + 6L 
*Concurrent enrollment with PHYS 6L required*
Note: PHYS 7A/B and 6L will not satisfy prerequisites for admission to most medical schools

Spanish language proficiency and Medical Spanish. Students are required to take the Spanish Placement Exam to enroll:

Note: Students who complete the BIOC 100ABC sequence can use BIOC 100C to satisfy an upper-division elective.

NOTE: This requirement MUST be completed at UCSC

A passing grade in BIOL 189 satisfies this requirement.
