PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Human Biology bachelor of science program provides undergraduates with the foundation necessary to undertake advanced training in medicine, dentistry, nursing, and other biomedically-related fields. The degree satisfies the admission requirements for biology, chemistry, math, and physics for most biomedically-related professional and graduate schools in the U.S.

NOTE: Medical and professional school admissions requirments vary; students should verify that their coursework will satisfy the admissions requirements of the programs to which they plan to apply.

Following the advice of California health care professionals and administrators, we require each student to serve an internship in a local health care facility to gain practical hands-on experience. This has become one of the most popular features of the program. Reflecting California's rapidly changing cultural demographics, students must also demonstrate or gain language proficiency in Spanish to complete the degree.

UCSC human biology students also enjoy close interactions with 20 affiliated MCD Biology faculty members. In addition, students have access to an Internship Coordinator, and Career Center resources are available to help guide students in identifiying career choices, meeting requirements for and preparing applications to professionals schools.
